This CD-Rom is the final product of the Leonardo da Vinci Thematic Group on “Transparency of qualifications, validation of non-formal and informal learning, credit transfer”.

The Group has been established by the European Commission, and re-launched in 2006, in the framework of the Thematic Monitoring initiative of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, which is now part of the new Lifelong Learning Programme 2007-2013. It relies upon the active participation and commitment of National Agencies and stakeholders from 10 different countries all over Europe.

This Group has supported and facilitated a theme-based exchange of experience and networking among different actors, with a view to allow synergies among policy developments, theoretical reflections and concrete practices in its fields of interest. These include:

  • the design, development and testing of approaches, methodologies, pathways and tools aimed at supporting transparent competences and qualifications throughout and within the different European countries, also in view of the establishment of a common framework for qualifications at European level (EQF)

  • the dissemination, promotion and testing of European devices for documenting learning experiences (Europass) and for accumulating and transferring credits gained in vocational education and training pathways (ECVET);

  • the development and application of methodologies and tools for the identification and recognition of any kind of learning experience, in whatever context (formal, non-formal, informal) it might have been acquired, also in connection with the common principles defined to this purpose at European level.

The CD contains all the main outputs which have been realised by the Group in its more than one year of activity. In particular, its areas are structured as follows:

  • Final report includes the presentation of all the activities and achievements of the Group, an analysis of interesting experiences related to the concerned themes and realised in the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, as well as some recommendations for the future;

  • Documents hosts a collection of documents illustrating recent policy developments at European level in the targeted themes;

  • Projects contains a database of more than 100 project information sheets on relevant Leonardo de Vinci initiatives (“Projects database”) and a more in-depth contribution from some of them (“A focus on project practices”);

  • Events proceedings contains all the presentations and material produced for the two events that the Group has organised in 2007 (the Thematic Seminar “Mobility beyond Borders” – held in Bucharest on March 23, 2007 – and the Thematic Conference “Transparency contributing to Employability” – held in Rome on July 5-6, 2007);

  • Contact people includes the references of current and former members of the Thematic group;

  • Credits lists all the contributors to this CD.
